The British Army DPM Short Back Bergen is a genuine military-surplus rucksack from the classic British Army PLCE load-carrying system. Originally designed for transporting substantial amounts of clothing, sleeping equipment and field kit, it combines a large 100-litre capacity with rugged British military construction and the recognisable Woodland DPM camouflage pattern.
Please note: these particular Bergens are being sold at a reduced price because they have significant defects, damage or missing components. They are genuine heavily used military surplus and should not be expected to arrive in fully serviceable condition.
Possible faults include holes, tears, large stains, broken buckles, damaged or broken zips, missing internal frames, damaged straps, previous repairs and other signs of extensive military service. The exact faults will vary from Bergen to Bergen.
The Short Back version features a more compact back profile than the Long Back Bergen, making it particularly suitable for users with a shorter torso or those who prefer their pack to sit slightly higher on the back.
When complete, the Bergen provides approximately 100 litres of storage within its large top-loading main compartment. An extendable inner section with drawcord closure helps secure the contents, while zipped lid storage provides additional room for smaller items.
The original design also incorporates padded shoulder straps, an adjustable waist belt and an internal aluminium support frame.
Any of these components may be damaged, missing or unusable on the defective Bergens supplied in this listing.
Heavy-duty zips on either side of the Bergen were originally designed to accept compatible British Army PLCE side pouches. Each side pouch provides approximately 10 litres of additional storage, allowing the Bergen to reach approximately 120 litres total capacity when two pouches are fitted.
Please note: side pouches are not included.
The side attachment zips may also be damaged, broken or unusable on defective examples, so compatibility with additional pouches cannot be guaranteed.
These Bergens are therefore best suited to customers looking for an inexpensive genuine British Army rucksack for repair projects, restoration, spare components, rough storage, prop use or other applications where full serviceability is not required.
These Bergens are sold in defective condition and will have significant faults, damage or missing components.
Possible defects may include, but are not limited to:
The exact defects will vary from Bergen to Bergen and we cannot guarantee which faults an individual item will have.
Some Bergens may have one significant fault, while others may have several areas of damage or missing components.
These items should not be purchased with the expectation that they are immediately suitable for hiking, carrying heavy loads or normal field use. Repairs or replacement components may be required before the Bergen can be used safely and reliably as a load-carrying rucksack.
They are best suited to customers who are comfortable repairing military-surplus equipment, require genuine PLCE components for spare parts, want a cheap rough-storage bag or are looking for an authentic British Army Bergen for restoration, displays or props.
Despite their faults, these defective British Army DPM Short Back Bergens can offer excellent value for customers looking for genuine PLCE equipment for repairs, projects or less demanding storage applications.
