The British Army DPM Short Back Bergen is a genuine military-surplus rucksack from the classic British Army PLCE load-carrying system. Originally designed for transporting substantial amounts of clothing, sleeping equipment and field kit, it combines a large 100-litre capacity with rugged British military construction and the recognisable Woodland DPM camouflage pattern.

The Short Back version features a more compact back profile than the Long Back Bergen, making it particularly suitable for users with a shorter torso or those who prefer their pack to sit slightly higher on the back.
When complete, the Bergen provides approximately 100 litres of storage within its large top-loading main compartment. An extendable inner section with drawcord closure helps secure the contents, while zipped lid storage provides additional room for smaller items.
The original design also incorporates padded shoulder straps, an adjustable waist belt and an internal aluminium support frame.

Heavy-duty zips on either side of the Bergen were originally designed to accept compatible British Army PLCE side pouches. Each side pouch provides approximately 10 litres of additional storage, allowing the Bergen to reach approximately 120 litres total capacity when two pouches are fitted.

The side attachment zips may also be damaged, broken or unusable on defective examples, so compatibility with additional pouches cannot be guaranteed.
