The British Army DPM Short Back Bergen is a genuine military-surplus rucksack from the classic British Army PLCE load-carrying system. Designed for carrying substantial amounts of clothing, sleeping equipment and field kit, it combines a generous 100-litre capacity with rugged military construction and the instantly recognisable Woodland DPM camouflage pattern.
The Short Back version features a more compact back length than the Long Back Bergen, making it particularly suitable for users with a shorter torso or those who prefer the pack to sit slightly higher on the back. It is also well suited to use alongside military webbing, where a longer rucksack can interfere with belt-mounted equipment.
Offering approximately 100 litres of internal storage, the large top-loading main compartment provides plenty of room for sleeping bags, clothing, cooking equipment and other bulky outdoor essentials. The extendable inner section uses a drawcord closure to help keep the contents secure before the top lid is fastened.
An internal aluminium support frame helps provide structure and stability when carrying heavier loads. Padded adjustable shoulder straps and an adjustable waist belt help distribute weight across the shoulders, back and hips for improved comfort during longer periods of use.
Additional zipped storage within the lid provides convenient space for smaller essentials such as gloves, maps, first aid equipment, torches and other items that need to remain readily accessible.
Heavy-duty zips on either side of the Bergen are designed for attaching compatible British Army PLCE side pouches. Each standard side pouch provides approximately 10 litres of additional storage, increasing the total carrying capacity to around 120 litres when two pouches are fitted.
Compatible side pouches can also be removed and attached to a suitable PLCE yoke to create a separate approximately 20-litre daysack.
Please note: the two 10L PLCE side pouches and yoke are not included with this Bergen unless specifically stated otherwise.
Constructed for demanding military use, the Bergen is designed to cope with repeated loading, outdoor conditions and substantial amounts of kit. Its classic Woodland DPM camouflage also gives it the unmistakable appearance associated with British Army field equipment.
Whether used for wild camping, bushcraft, military collecting, festivals, cadet activities or transporting bulky outdoor equipment, the British Army DPM Short Back Bergen remains a highly capable and practical piece of genuine Army Surplus.
These Bergens are genuine British Army surplus supplied in Grade 1 used condition.
They have previously been issued and used during military service but remain fully functional and suitable for continued use.
As genuine surplus equipment, individual Bergens may show signs of previous service including:
Grade 1 Bergens should remain serviceable, with the main carrying straps, buckles, zips and frame functioning correctly. They should not be expected to look new or unissued.
These signs of previous service are normal for genuine Army Surplus and give each Bergen its own authentic military character.
With its substantial 100-litre capacity, compact Short Back profile and proven British Army PLCE construction, this Bergen is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a genuine high-capacity military rucksack for camping, bushcraft or serious outdoor use.
