British Army NBC Vapour Detector Kit L1A1 – Cold War Military Equipment

A genuine British military Vapour Detector Kit L1A1, an unusual piece of Cold War-era Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) detection equipment.

Introduced during the 1950s, the L1A1 Vapour Detector Kit was developed to assist personnel in detecting and identifying chemical warfare agents, including mustard and nerve-agent vapours.

The equipment was carried in a compact military case / haversack so that the detector equipment could be transported and used in the field.

Today, surviving examples make fascinating collectables representing Britain's preparations for chemical warfare during the Cold War.

Vapour Detector Kit L1A1

The L1A1 formed part of British NBC protective and detection equipment.

Rather than simply indicating that contamination might be present, the kit was designed to allow samples of suspected chemical vapour to be collected and tested using the various detector components carried within the set.

Condition

This is genuine vintage British military equipment and shows signs of age, previous service and long-term storage.

There may be marks, scratches, fading, staining, oxidation, writing, deterioration to the case or straps and general age-related wear.

Internal components may also show deterioration associated with their age.
