British Army Smoke Grenade Carrier
Unidentified military equipment carrier device, but likely a smoke grenade deployment system, acquired directly from the British Army along with some similar obscure oddities. The carrier frame is made of metal (probably aluminium), painted NATO green and features a hinged lid, secured on one side by a removable pin. The frame has five compartments lined with foam, which are a suitable size for most British Army smoke grenades.
Our best guess for this item is a specialised carrier for L132A1 Smoke Screen Grenades which allows a set of five smoke grenades to be activated simulatenously when the pin is pulled and the 'lid' of the carrier is released. The configuration of straps on one side of the carrier suggests the device is designed to be attached to a vehicle and enable a mobile smoke screen to be deployed across a wide area.
If anyone else has information to confirm what this device is, I'd be very grateful to learn more!
