US Army M1956 Canteen Pouch

A genuine vintage US Army M1956 Canteen Cover, forming part of the M1956 Load-Carrying Equipment system widely associated with American forces during the Vietnam War era.

Manufactured from heavy olive drab military canvas, the pouch was designed to carry the standard US one-quart water canteen together with its nesting metal canteen cup.

This example retains the characteristic two sliding metal belt keepers on the rear, distinguishing the M1956 design from the earlier M1910 canteen cover which used a double wire belt hook.

An excellent original piece of Vietnam-era American military field equipment.

Military Markings

Original military-issue printing remains visible on the front of the pouch; however, the rear markings are now extremely faded and largely illegible.

Unfortunately, this means that the original production / contract date cannot be reliably identified.

We have therefore not attributed a specific year to this example.

Condition

This example is in generally good condition for its age, particularly considering that M1956 equipment dates from the Vietnam War era.

There are normal signs of previous military use, age and storage, including some marking, fading, discolouration and general wear to the canvas.
