Original Royal Marines Pattern Khaki Wool greatcoat from the WW2 period, in good condition for its age.
This style of greatcoat was produced from the Early 1930s until the end of the Second World War and was exclusive to the Royal Marines. This style is characterised by the straight-cut front opening with parallel rows of buttons, and the straight pocket flaps; regular greatcoats for all other regiments had slanted pocket flaps and a trapezium-shaped front opening.
This coat features the name 'Mackintosh. A.' stencilled onto the interior fabric. Sadly, all other labels and identifying marks have worn away. All buttons on the coat are original and authentic WW2-era Royal Marines brass buttons with King's Crown.
The coat exhibits several moth-holes and areas of insect damage which have eaten away the original wool in some areas - this damage can be seen in the photographs of the item. In spite of the insect damage, the coat is in very good condition with no wear-related damage or alterations, and is ideal for fans of 1940s fashion and collectors of WW2 uniform.
